MCM Expo

On Saturday Along with thousands of other people I attended the London MCM comic con. The event featured comics, movies and Games. I was lucky enough to see a preview of gears of war 3, Deus EX Human Revolution, and Red Faction Armageddon. Gamespot UK had a stand and I was lucky enough to meet Gamespot UK editor Guy Cocker, he was a nice guy and even remembered my name after I bumped into him for a second time.  Gamespot had various game machines such as old arcade machines and an Xbox which allowed you to try kinect; they also had a competition to win a customised Xbox.  From What I saw of Deus Ex, it was very good the graphics looked good and the story looked good, I can’t wait to play the full game. Also I got to see the destruction mode of Red Faction; it looked like a lot of fun to play.

me and a Johnny Depp look alike
Many attendees of the event chose to dress up, these people are known as “cos players” costumes ranged from amazing and cool, to frankly weird and bizarre. Many were gaming related, and others were film characters and some were anime related.  I had my picture Taken with several cos players my favourites have to be the Johnny Depp Look alike and the Storm Troopers who interrogated me. Another Highlight for me was the talk from the Futurama cast in the theatre area, there was an audience Q and A session with the cast, and they did most of the characters voices. I had a great day at the expo and I would definitely go again next year. Checkout my facebook page for pictures from the day.

Brink First Impressions

(C) Splash Damage

Brink is Bethesda and Splash Damage’s new Shooter. It was released yesterday (13/05/11) I bought it today (14/05/11) for Playstation 3. The game is set in the future on an island called the ark. The ark was built as a vision of green sustainable living. An environmental crisis became a reality, melting glaciers, rising sea levels, thousands have fled to the ark as a last hope. There is tension on the ark as forces fight for control of the Ark.

At the start of the game you have to make a decision to escape the island and play as the resistance or save the island and play as the security forces, I chose to save the island which meant playing as the security forces.   You play as these people with very long faces, your characters are customisable and as you gain xp you unlock new outfits for your character. The graphics are pretty good, and the character animation is good. The game reminds me a lot of the splash damage game quake wars as the classes are the same, medic, engineer, soldier and operative also the fact that you can choose to wait for a medic or spawn with reinforcements.  There are 3 ways to play the game, play through campaign in order, or you can do free play where you play the levels in any order, and challenge mode where you complete challenges in order to gain xp to level up and to unlock costumes for your character.  However the control scheme isn’t great the controls  felt quite awkward but that’s just me if it’s not like the cod controls i have become used to it’s not right, also I found that I kept getting downed and when the medics came to rescue me they got killed , the ai isn’t great but until PSN comes back up I’m stuck playing with bots.

So far I am pretty impressed by brink; stay posted as I will have a full review to come soon.

PlayStation Network and Quirocity services will resume this week

Sony revealed on their blog that they would be rolling out PlayStation network and Quirocity services in the upcoming week. A press conference took place in Tokyo   this morning and a press release is being distributed worldwide. They went on to thank everyone for their patience; the roll out of services will begin regionally. Users will be greeted with a mandatory update which will require users to change their password. At the press conference Kaz Hirai offered his apologies for the outage and also said that the PlayStation store would not be up and instead would be back up within a month. Approximately 10 million credit card numbers may have fallen into the hands of the hackers, 1/10 of the people that use the PlayStation network.  The motive behind the attack is still unclear.
