RIM Explain BlackBerry Black Out

BlackBerry Bold.

RIM the company behind the BlackBerry has finally explained why BlackBerry users in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and India have not been able to use BlackBerry Messenger and other internet services.  RIM has said "The messaging and browsing delays being experienced by BlackBerry users in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, India, Brazil, Chile and Argentina were caused by a core switch failure within RIM's infrastructure,"

"Although the system is designed to failover to a back-up switch, the failover did not function as previously tested. As a result, a large backlog of data was generated and we are now working to clear that backlog and restore normal service as quickly as possible."  The statement ended with “We apologise for any inconvenience caused and will keep you informed”

BlackBerry Server crash affects millions

RIM had an outage at one of their BlackBerry servers, which has caused BBM, internet and emails to be taken offline for many BlackBerry users. The outage began at 11 AM Monday. The outage has affected BlackBerry users across Europe, the Middle East and it has also been reported to have affected some users in Canada.

RIM has said “We are working to resolve an issue currently impacting some BlackBerry subscribers in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

"We're investigating, and we apologise to our customers for any inconvenience caused while this is resolved."

Images of iPhone 5's inner Workings leaked

Photos have been leaked of the inner workings of an iPhone5. From these photos we can see that it will feature an A5 processor, which is the same processor currently found in the iPad. The pictures were posted anonymously on the Chinese social networking site Weibo.

HTC to Sue Apple over Patent Infringement

HTC the maker of Smart Phones is going to sue Apple over a patent infringement. HTC is using patents they bought from Google to lodge complaints against the technology giant Apple. HTC’s complaint was that Apple computers and mobile devices breach the patent s for Wi-Fi capability and processor communication technology.

This is the third time HTC have filed a complaint against Apple. Grace Lei has said in a statement "We are taking this action against Apple to protect our intellectual property, our industry partners, and most importantly our customers that use HTC phones”

Apple have also been sued by Samsung before, Samsung’s phones also use the Android operating system. It is clear that this is becoming a fight between Apple and Android.

Apple iPhone 5 Prototype Left in a bar

It has been reported that an iPhone 5 prototype has been left in a bar in San Francisco. This is not the first time this has happened to an Apple employee; a year ago an unreleased iPhone 4 was misplaced in a bar and sold to a gadget website.  However no spy shots have been found online. Apple has reported the incident to the police.  Apple are desperate to recover the phone so that they can avoid a similar situation to what happened last year in the run up to the iPhone4 release.

A BBC Survey into 3G reveals Shocking Results

A BBC survey designed to look at the state of Mobile Networks in Britain has revealed shocking results. Mobile operators claim that we can get 90% or more 3G coverage. The survey has revealed that there are still many “not spots” these not spots include even towns and cities.  as a result of the survey the BBC was able to find out that the people who took part were only able to get a 3G signal  75% of the time , the rest of the time smart phone users had to rely on the older 2G technology which is much slower than 3G

With an increase in the use of smart phones mobile coverage is becoming more of an issue as people rely more on their smart phones. The BBC created an app which allowed users to test their coverage. 44,000 people participated in the experiment which aimed to create a map of coverage.

To check your coverage you can view an interactive map here.  I have an xperia x10 mini phone which is on the O2 network, I have found recently that I have rarely been able to get 3G and I live in a fairly big town. According to the map there are only a few 3G hotspots in my town, the only place in my town I have ever got a 3G signal is at the station. Clearly a lot needs to be done to improve 3G signal.

Google Android Market reaches 4.5 billion downloads

Google’s Android Market has reach 4.5 billion downloads. But this is still 10 Billion behind Apple.  Google reached its billionth download a year ago , over the past  12 months Google has managed to generate a massive 3.5 billion downloads

iPhone 5 release date leaked

It has been revealed that the iPhone 5 will be available for purchase on the 21^st November; this information was leaked by an anonymous Phones4U representative who was speaking to the technology website t3.  The Phones4U representative said “iPhone 5 has been delayed until November following an issue with the handset's software” he also said that “November 21st release, would "be pretty much the same as the iPhone 4 with new software” typical Apple.
